Read on for more…
To get you ready to take the fight to the underground of the Eightpoints, we are going to take a brief look over the currently available Warbands that you* can use to tear your opponents to bloody ribbons! Currently there are 7 purchasable Warcry Warbands to get your Chaos tainted hands on, together let’s take a glimpse into this world and maybe introduce you to some lifelong battle companions!
The Untamed Beasts:
Hailing from the Realm of Ghur, the Untamed Beasts are exactly what it says on the tin, they hate that of civilization and wish to tear it asunder! By bonding with the spirits of beasts with their chaotic rituals, they have gathered inhuman strength and speed which they use to bash, impale and devour their unlucky opponents. They do all of this to impress Archaon, they wish nothing more than to join him on his never-ending quest of devouring the known realms!
Playing with the Untamed Beasts you can expect:
- A good mix of range and melee units!
- Fast moving ground takers!
- Unpredictable and flexible plays!
- A big kitty!**
Jalen’s favourite unit: The Rocktusk Prowler! Its tough with its 20 wounds, speedy with its 8 movement and has deadly set of attacks! It’s a big threat that your opponent will likely want to deal with very quickly, make sure to use this to your advantage, move the Prowler in and create some space for your other Warband members to maneuver freely.
Also bonus points: It’s a big badass cat.
Iron Golems
Clanking in from the Realm of Metal,*** the Iron Golems are ironclad warrior blacksmiths that are tough as nails. They believe that flesh is weak and steel is forever, and kit themselves out with some of the toughest armor and brutalist weapons made across the realms. They have a host of interesting characters in their Warband from standard humans encrusted in spikey steel to a hulking brute of an Ogor with Maces for fists.
Playing with Iron Golems you can expect:
- Slow moving heavy hitters!
- Everyone is a tough to take down!
- An in your face Warband who love hugs!****
- A Chaos Dwarf!
Jalen’s favourite unit: The Ogor Breacher. This absolute unit is packing two giant mace fists that can turn his opponents into a blood and guts milkshake. He is a slow mover with only 4 movement but with his 30 wounds and strength 6, damage 4 (or 8 on a critical roll) attacks, he more than makes up for it.
Cypher Lords
The most cunning of the Chaos Warbands, the Cypher lords enter the fray from the city of Nochseed in the Realm of Light. The Cypher Lords, hailing from Hysh, are naturally keen-eyed and swift, they combine these deadly traits with the dark arts by praising the Chaos Lords in secret. No one really knows what these secretive cult members are up to, all we can say is that is definitely no good.
Playing with the Cypher Lords you can expect:
- Great damage!
- Fantastic Leader unit!
- Squishy but speedy!
- Cool helmets!
Jalen’s favourite unit: It has got to be the Thrallmaster. The so-called leader of the Warband has access to the best abilities, you want this guy up in the fight with the rest of the warband. Make sure to keep him protected and use abilities such as Shadowy recall to teleport a unit behind an enemy and land a devasting counterblow! I also like his nifty fan.
Corvus Cabal:
The flapping of wings can be heard descending from the Realm of Shadows, these masters of ambush have arrived in the Eightpoints to pick clean the corpses of their foes, all in the name of their mysterious god: The Great Gatherer. These are some of the most impressive and unique looking miniatures Warcry has to offer and will be a joy for any painter.
Playing with the Corvus Cabal you can expect:
- One of the speediest warbands!
- Lots of damage!
- Terrain is their best friend!
- Bird skulls and lots of feathers!
Jalen’s favourite unit: The Shrike Talon! This bird man is an incredibly agile and deadly unit on the tabletop, dashing through the skies with a fantastic 8 movement, use this guy to skulk about the outskirts and dive in behind big units to rip them to shreds! The sculpt is also gorgeous and I really need to paint one, I adore the Bloodborne like aesthetic with this warband!
The Splintered Fang:
Slithering in from the jungles of the Realm of Life, the Splintered Fang are a band of warrior cultists that have been tempted by the powers of the ‘Coiling Ones.’ They use a host of weapons such as poison tipped spears, constricting nets and straight up snakes. The Splintered Fang are fighting through the Eightpoints to find the remains of their deity, Nagendra.
Playing with the Splintered Fang you can expect:
- Fantastic critical output!
- Abilities that can negate your opponent’s advantages!
- Lots of attacks!
- Snakes!
Jalen’s favourite unit: Serpents. Enough said, its snakes.
The Unmade:
The once wise and enlightened remnants of the Shyish empire of Tzlid, The Unmade turned to the Chaos gods to help turn the tide against the never-ending dead. However, these spooky lot ended up looking A LOT scarier than the undead themselves, mutilating their own bodies to make horrifying visages and spindly weapons. You really wouldn’t wanna bump into any of these terrifying lot in a dark alley, especially if you like your skin attached to your body.
Playing with The Unmade you can expect:
- Very broad and useable abilities!
- Awesome synergies
- Strong and speedy leader!
- Skulls!
Jalen’s favourite unit: The Blissful One. My goodness, this guy is absolutely horrifying! The Blissful One is fast, effective and hauntingly brutal, being able to turn even the biggest of your opponents into chunky peanut butter in seconds. With those large sickle hands, he has a nice 5 attacks to dish out at strength 4 and a whopping 6 damage on critical hits instead of standard 2!
He is also wearing his own face on a pendant. That’s the most metal thing I can think of.
Spire Tyrants:
Bustling in for their newest fight from the heart of Varanspire, the Spire Tyrants are here to use their gladiatorial combat knowledge against unlucky foes. The Spire Tyrants, hailing from Archaon’s home turf, have been made up from the biggest, baddest and brutalist of the survivors of the fighting pits. This group of brutes is ready to seek even higher glory and bloodier battles within the Eightpoints, further proving their worth to big daddy Archaon.
Playing with the Spire Tyrants you can expect:
- Nice variation of units!
- Combo orientated gameplay!
- A more advanced but rewarding warband!
- A really cool Bestigor!
Jalen’s favourite unit: The Bestigor is the Best(igor) I love him! A tough cookie with some sweet damage output and a fantastic model? What is not to love here?
WOW! That is a lot of badass butcherers, right? Well I am sure at least one of these amazing Warbands has taken your fancy, if so make sure to jump onto the Langden Games online store or come down to the shop and pick yourself up your favourite(s) of the bunch!
Also remember that Warcry: Catacombs is on preorder now, so if you are fancying either Scions of the Flame or the Khainite Shadowstalkers, make sure to get your preorder in!
